Quite possibly with no exaggeration the Rocky Mountains could be called the rooftop of North America. With eight peaks reaching over fourteen thousand feet, the Collegiate Peaks are some of the highest peaks in the United States. These peaks and passes form the backbone of the Rocky Mountains and the Continental Divide. Our playground on the Autumn Hot Springs Adventure Tour will be among the densest concentration of high peaks and passes in North America.
Loveland Pass is where US Highway 6 crosses the Continental Divide between Loveland Basin and Arapahoe Basin. Most people stay on the I-70 and pass through the Eisenhower Tunnel, going through the mountain instead of grinding your way slowly up the steep switchbacks and over the top of the ridge... then through the switchbacks on the other side. It's a long climb up the hill but the scenery is most excellent. There's a couple of good turn-outs so you can stop and take in the views.

Cottonwood Hot Springs is surrounded by 14,000+ foot Mountain Peaks
Beginning on Day 1 at Cottonwood Hot Springs, the Hot Springs Adventure Tour cross's Weston, Hoosier, Boreas, Kenosha, Guanella, Loveland and Ute Passes and then follows the Colorado River Road through Glenwood Canyon to the Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge. 350 Miles.
Day 1 destination is the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool & Lodge In 1888 the world’s largest hot springs pool was born in the newly established town of Glenwood Springs. It became world-renowned as a healing wonder set in a mountain paradise. Around the turn of the century, the Golden Age of Mineral Spas, it was referred to as “Spa of the Rockies”, when "spa" was defined as hot spring bathing. During WWII the hot springs and hotel were used exclusively as a U.S. Naval Convalescent Hospital.
Glenwood Canyon is a rugged scenic 12.5 mile canyon on the Colorado River in western Colorado. Its canyon walls climb as high as 1,300 ft (396 m) above the Colorado River. Historically the canyon has provided the only route through the rocky mountains for trains and automobiles. The engineering required to extend I-70 through the canyon was the most difficult project on the US interstate system.
Glenwood Canyon is widely considered one of the most scenic natural features on the entire Interstate Highway System in the United States.
Aspen is a retreat for the rich and famous along with the near rich and want to be famous. In 2011 Aspen was ranked by the Wall Street Journal and the most expensive town in America. We won't be staying in Aspen long.
After a night at the historic and plush Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge, Day 2 heads up to Aspen, the iconic mountain ski town and the one that sets the standard for all other ski towns, crosses Independence, Cottonwood, Cumberland, Wuanita, Black Sage, Old Monarch, Cochatope Passes and then passes thru the La Garita wilderness to the Great Sand Dunes Hot Springs Pool and then onto the Inn of the Rio Grande in Alamosa for Sunday night. 350 Miles. 12,095 foot Independence Pass in the central Rocky Mountains is the 2nd highest paved pass in Colorado and is the center of one of the most spectacular stretches of road in the State. The pass crosses the ridge of the Sawatch Range between Aspen and Leadville, and runs through the White River National Forest. The road is narrow and steep with a 6.5% gradient, including tight switchbacks on each approach. The Independence pass road is steep and has steep drop offs and sheer cliffs. The road narrows to one lane at several points.
"We are not out to beat the hell out of you guys. They should have fun, enjoy the ride and see what this part of Colorado is about. For riders from out of state or lower elevations this could be an epic, once in a lifetime adventure." Sean Barr - Mountain Tech Yamaha

One of Colorado's lesser known wilderness areas, the La Garita Wilderness is, in fact, one of the state's original five. La Garita means "the lookout" in Spanish, and this area amply deserves the name. La Garita's gentle alpine terrain offers refuge to thriving herds of elk, mule deer and bighorn sheep. The La Garita area is a wild part of Colorado that few people will ever see.
Medano Pass Monday if your heading back to Buena Vista you can take in Medano Pass thru the back of the Great Sand Dunes National Park, the Arkansas River Canyon and Aspen Ridge. Great Sand Dunes
Mention Colorado, and the last thing most people think of are sand dunes, but located near the southern end of the state is a desert oasis called the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. Within this rugged 39 square mile park stand the tallest sand dunes in North America. Natural forces have deposited 1,900 acres of sand over the last 400,00 years. Ancient sand blew with the predominant southwest winds toward a low curve in the Sangre De Cristo mountains. The wind funnels toward three mountain passes and the sand accumulates in this natural pocket. The highest dunes are around 750 feet tall. We will not be riding in the Great Sand Dunes but if you choose to go over Medano Pass on Monday there is one nice sandy section...
Between recklessness and overcautiousness runs the narrow, uncertain ridgetop path of Adventure.
